You can check out my posts for my recommended hotels, lodges and resorts depending on where on Costa Rica you plan on traveling to. In the meantime, I would like to offer you a few tips on ways to get a good deal when traveling to Costa Rica… maybe not the best deal.. but a good deal without driving yourself crazy and not spending hours online looking a different sites.
Concentrate – don’t get anxious when you see the by the “only 2 rooms left” or the “10 rooms already sold” and then start to feel rushed into getting a room.. Simply take your time and look at all your options and find exactly what you want in a hotel or resort and its rooms
Its better to think about the price and not the discount – Look at the number and decide if that is what you would like or can afford to pay for a room taking into consideration what you would like from your hotel such as location, breakfast included etc.
Dates – this one has the potential to be a big money saver. If you are staying a Sunday night in low season, for example, you can be fairly confident that there is no need to rush to book. A major holiday weekend is another matter altogether, for example Christmas and Easter, and you should be prepared to act quickly if you see a good deal.
Use the right search option – Its always best to search by price instead of the other options such as recommended or staff favorites. If you see a hotel at a good price then you can cross reference by using another site such as yelp or trip adviser to get others opinions about the hotel you are looking at.
Fly and Drive – One of the best ways to travel around Costa Rica, especially in the low season is what is commonly referred to as the fly and drive. This is where you just get airfare and a car rental and then figure out where you are going to stay and for how long once you are there. The advantage of this type of travel is you are not stuck to a itinerary so if you get to a town that you like and you want to stay you can do so.
The flip side is also true as well, if you get to a place or town that you don’t like you can just pick up and leave without being concerned about cancelling a reservation or getting a refund for a unused hotel stay. This is easiest to do in low season but can also be done in high season but you may not get your first hotel choice.
Hopefully this will give you a couple of good pointers when you are searching for a budget hotel and I hope you find the deal that you are looking for. Here is a link to CheapTickets which might help you begin your search and get you on your way to big savings.
