Tamarindo surf camp was created by surfers for surfers. Let us take you to the absolute best surf breaks in the country, or simply hang out at the restaurant/bar and catch some sun.

It is our mission to provide you with an amazing surfing vacation experience. As a lifelong surfer, I traveled the world searching for the ideal surfing refuge, and I found it right here in Tamarindo! A beautiful beach with consistent waves, multiple surf breaks for surfers of all levels, all directly in front of Witch’s Rock Surf Camp.

We have tried our best to compliment these waves with a great hangout on the beach: 18 ocean view hotel rooms, 2 restaurants offering the food that surfers love, and a great surf shop that will set you up with surf lessons, surf trips, surfboard rentals, non-surfing tours, and tons of gear like boardshorts, bikinis, t-shirts, hats, rashguards, sunscreen and more.

At Tamarindo Surf Camp we offer you ocean front hotel rooms with Tamarindo's main surfing beach DIRECTLY IN FRONT. Each of our rooms has a view of the beautiful Pacific Ocean, and each is within earshot of the crashing waves you will soon be surfing. Most of our rooms have an unobstructed view of the ocean, and those that have a partial ocean view do so as a result of the lush plant life and refreshing infinity pool that have popped up since we first built the hotel.We don't believe in charging more than we have to, as we'd rather have you come back again and again and again. All rooms have air conditioning, private bathrooms, beachfront ocean view, and high speed wireless internet. Stay in our hotel and be close to the beach and the waves. Enjoy our on-site restaurant and bar or Chill in the pool as you watch the waves or one of Tamarindo's fabled sunsets

Tamarindo Surf School

Whether you are just starting out or you've been surfing for your entire life, we have an instructional surf school package that will be perfect for you. Our lessons are held directly in front of the surf camp on Playa Tamarindo (widely known as Costa Rica's best learning beach). All of our surf instructors are ISA Certified and experienced lifeguards. We offer the best surf school program that you will find, with the added bonus that the water is warm and the surroundings are excellent! We pride ourselves on getting all of our guests up and riding waves, and you will be no exception. Or, if you've just been out of the water for some time and need some brushing up, we can do that too! Get hooked with our beginning, intermediate, and established surf school programs led by our professional instructors.

Surf Tours

Our surf tours are intended for advanced surfers only and are, by far, the BEST WAY to surf Costa Rica! Why?Flying with surfboards is expensive and difficult! Damaged boards and excessive airline handling fees are what is making it expensive. Book a surf tour package and get one of our brand new Tamarindo boards to ride while you're here..

Surf Camp Packages

Beginning Surfer You need to know how to swim, how to apply sunscreen, and how to have a good time! This course is designed for the true beginner. Even if you've never seen the ocean before, we'll get you up and riding waves before you know it, guaranteed!

Intermediate Surfer Students in this program are expected to have tried surfing before and can stand up on most attempts. Students should feel comfortable paddling out on a surfboard in waist to chest high waves.

Established Surfer This course focuses on furthering the student's surfing skills. Areas of growth include bottom turns, gaining speed, cutbacks, and floaters. Video analysis is used as a teaching tool to convey ideas and to critique the student's surfing style.

Advanced Surfer These surf tours DO NOT INCLUDE SURF INSTRUCTION. All guests are assumed to have extensive surfing experience and are comfortable surfing advanced surf breaks. Normal surf conditions range from shoulder to head-high and can reach overhead to double-overhead on bigger swell days.

Surf Lessons

Come learn to surf at the Witch’s Rock Surf School, taught by our very friendly surf instructors. Each instructor is bilingual and has years of training, and we take you surfing in waves that are ideal for your level of ability. Our student to instructor ratios are some of the lowest around, ensuring that you’ll have plenty of attention.

Witch's Rock / Ollie's Point Boat Trip

Witch’s Rock has to be considered one of Costa Rica’s best surf spots. Made famous by Robert August in the movie Endless Summer II, Witch’s Rock (or Roca Bruja as the locals call it) provides world class surfing along it’s sand bottom beach break most every day of the year. Ollie’s Point (called Potrero Grande in Spanish) is a right hand point break located only a few miles north of Witch’s Rock. Our surf shop in Tamarindo can book your ticket and get you here.Guided tours depart at 5:15AM from Witch’s Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo and cost $95/person. Trips may return as late as sunset.*Water and lunch is provided. Don’t forget to bring sun screen, surf wax, and a camera. *These are advanced surf breaks and NOT recommended for beginning surfers. 

Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point are located north of the Gulf of Papagayo, inside the Santa Rosa National Park. A $15 park entrance fee is required the morning of the surf tour. This fee is NOT included in our rate. *Even if Witch’s Rock or Ollie’s Point go flat, the surroundings are still amazing. It is common to see a whale, dolphin, turtle or manta ray. You can always snap photos of Costa Rica’s Rincon de la Vieja volcano or take a hike along the Potrero Grande estuary.
