Hello Sean, I think you would be surprised to hear that you can still get waves to yourselves in two very well know surf spots surf (Jaco/Playa Hermosa area)

Jaco is about 2 mile long beach with waves all up and down the beach and Playa Hermosa is probably at least 4 miles long which also has waves all up and down the beach. It always seems guys tend to all bunch up on one or two peaks. I just got back from that area last week where we stayed at the Jaco BW Hotel for a surf contest we put on and the waves were awesome and by just walking down the beach a block or so from the crowd my brother and I and a couple of friends had waves all to ourselves. I also like the fact that there are also lots of different breaks with in easy driving distance and it is one of if not the most consistent area for waves in the country.

Generally CR is usually in that head to chest high range and if it gets bigger you can always go to one of the point breaks or protected bay's where it will always be smaller but much cleaner.

We have hotels ranging form 3-5 star we can offer you can check them all out at http://www.ticotravel.com/index/hotelsmain.htm under the Central Pacific area. The Fuego del Sol is a good 3 star hotel on the beach though the waves are a pretty powerful beach break.

Or if you wanted to be in walking distance to town and have the convenience of a you could stay at the Jaco Beach Hotel is a great choice this is where we stayed the hotel has a good wave right behind the hotel (its about a 5 minute ride away form Playa Hermosa)

We can have a driver meet you at the airport with a sign when you arrive and drive you to your hotel and than if you want a vehicle we can arrange to have you pick it up in town or if you prefer to drive yourselves to the beach we can have the rental car company meet you right at the airport when you arrive. (its about a 2 hour ride to the beach form the airport)

My brother and I are college students who are coming to Costa Rica for 7 nights in early August. We want to stay in 2 or 3 places along the Pacific Coast. We are very interested in surfing, but also want to enjoy some other aspects of Costa Rica, along with some night life. Can you please recommend 2 or 3 towns that will have good surf in early August. Also, we cannot bring our own surfboards. Are there plenty of places to rent boards?

I would say the best 3 towns along the Pacific coast for surf and nightlife would be Tamarindo, Jaco and Quepos/Manuel Antonio. Though if you only have 7 nights you may want to just try doing two towns like Jaco and Quepos to cut down on driving time but its up to you. It may also depend upon your flight times how early or late you arrive and depart? Do you have you flights yet?

When you get a chance you can check out the accommodations we have available at those locations with descriptions and prices at http://www.ticotravel.com/index/hotelsmain.htm or let me know what level of comfort you are looking for and I can suggest some places for you.

Also if you like I can set you up with either a rental vehicle or private transfers between the locations. You can definitely get rental boards in any of these locations they will run about $20 per day.
