Gallo Pinto Tour

15 Days / 14 Nights

Gallo Pinto is one of the most famous dishes in Nicaragua. It is easy to make, and you will eat it in every family’s house in Nicaragua. It’s inexpensive, but very nutritious : rice and beans!!

This tour features exactly the same recipe, showing the contrasts in the country, between the Pacific side and the Atlantic side, the natural beauties and the colonial towns, the rich and poor, the old and the new.

Day 1

International Airport – Managua. You will arrive in Managua. Pick-up at airport and transfer to our City hotel in Managua. Accommodation at Hostal Real*** or similar. Included meals today: None.

Day 2

Managua – León. After breakfast and a briefing of the trip, visit to the most important monuments of the capital. Then drive from Lake Managua to the former capital, León. Dinner in the city and two night’s accommodation at Hotel Los Balcones**(*) or equivalent. Included meals today: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 3

León – Las Peñitas - Leon. Breakfast. Walking through the colonial streets, visit its principal monuments the Cathedral, the old University and the Museum of Rubén Darío. At mid day trip to the Pacific Ocean to the town of Poneloya / Las Peñitas enjoying a delicious meal by the natural beach. Included meals today: breakfast and lunch.

Day 4

León – Matagalpa – Selva Negra. Breakfast. Depart to the cool region of the central mountain area of Nicaragua. After passing through the town of Matagalpa, we will reach the famous lodge of Selva Negra. In the afternoon enjoy a walk through a mixed tropical forest. Dinner and accommodation at Hotel Selva Negra. Included meals today : Breakfast and Dinner

Day 5

Selva Negra – Finca La Cumplida. Breakfast. By 4x4 ride trough the mountain region of the “golden triangle” of coffee. At La Cumplida, we will not only learn about coffee, but also about ferns, reforestation, basic crops and social in a Nicaraguan Finca. Accommodation at Owners house at Finca. Included meals today: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 6

Finca La Cumplida – Laguna de Apoyo. After breakfast, enjoy the area on your own, before we depart for the Pacific area and reach the Apoyo Lagoon. Dinner and accommodation at Hotel San Simian** or similar. Included meals today : Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 7

Laguna de Apoyo – Ometepe Island – Playa Santo Domingo. In the morning, by ferry we will reach the island of Ometepe and we'll be transfered to Playa Santo Domingo, passing through traditional little villages and the legendary Charco Verde. The afternoon is free for the visitor to swim, relax or walk along the beach. 2 night's accommodations at Hotel Villa Paraiso*(*) or similar are included. Included meals today: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 8

Maderas Volcano – Playa Santo Domingo. Breakfast. Depending of the physical condition of the people,  explore the volcano Madera's. For visitors in good condition, we will climb to the Laguna of Madera's, or for a moderate walk, we will at stay Finca Sta Magdalena. Included meals today: Breakfast and Lunch bag on trail.

Day 9

Ometepe Island – San Juan del Sur. Breakfast and departure to San Juan del Sur and begin a short tour of the city. Observe the daily life of the locals, as well as, enjoying a fresh swim in the Pacific ocean. Accommodation at Hotel Posada Azul***. Included meals today: Breakfast.

Day 10

San Juan del Sur – City Tour Granada – Isletas - Granada. Breakfast. Visit the colonial city of Granada and its most attracting monuments. Boat tour to the romantic and tropical “Isletas”. Lunch at Puerto Asese.
Accommodation at Hotel Colonial***. Included meals today: Breakfast and Lunch.

Day 11

Granada - Masaya Volcano – Markets – Catarina - Granada. Breakfast. Visit the National Park the Masaya Volcano, followed by a tour of the town of Masaya. On the way back to Granada stop at Catarina. Dinner in Granada and two nights’ accommodation at the famous Hotel Colonial. Included meals: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 12

Granada – Managua – Bluefields – Corn Island. Breakfast. Departure to the airport, enjoy a scenic route through Nicaragua’s less populated country side. Then take our plane to Bluefields on the Atlantic coast to receive some Caribbean impressions and atmosphere, visit of the most attracting places. Then afternoon flight to Corn Island. Dinner and accommodation at Hotel Arenas Beach*** or equivalent. Included meals: Breakfast.

Day 13

Corn Island. Breakfast. This day will be dedicated for swimming in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, biking around the island, snorkeling on the beautiful reef, enjoying delicious seafood or just being lazy and lying in the hammock. Hotel Arenas Beach or equivalent. Included meals: Breakfast.

Day 14

Corn Island – Managua. Breakfast. Morning is free to finish enjoying the island. In the afternoon, you’ll take your flight back to Managua and transfer to Hotel Camino Real or equivalent. Included meals: Breakfast.

Day 15

Transfer Out. Breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight home or to your next destination. Included meals: Buffet-Breakfast.
