Sport Fishing Charters - Quepos
Costa Rica
This Sport fishing charter out of Quepos, Costa Rica is a 46' Guthrie Flybridge Sport fisher built in North Carolina. She sports a full size tuna tower, 14' beam, 2 staterooms which sleeps 4 guests.
The boat offers the speed and luxury to fish one day or several days in the most prolific big game waters in the world, and depending on where the fish are concentrated at any given moment, the 46-foot Guthrie will work out of Flamingo Beach in Northern Guanacaste, further down the Nicoya Peninsula basing at Guanamar, Quepos on the Central Coast, and often running south to the less frequently fished waters in the Drake Bay and Cano Island area.
For the truly adventurous, the crew is ready and willing to offer multi-day charters to those fabled fishing waters of Costa Ricas Cocos Island and the Hannibal Bank, off Panama, with plenty of live aboard comfort for those that have earned the right to expect the very best.
The crew has many years of experience fishing the waters of Costa Rica. The is captained by Melvin Mora Fallas for four years, with over 20 years experience fishing in
Quepos, and is well respected among his peers in Costa Rica. Melvin has captained the
46' Guthrie to several world records and billfish catches on the fly tackle.
The 1st Mate has been Roberto Gonzalez for two years and has over 10 years experience fishing in Quepos. The manager is Dennis Arnold an American living in Costa Rica. He is a former charter captain and has been fishing Costa Rica for many years. Dennis also is the vessel's resident videographer. You can have a video of your charter for years of enjoyment. This team is dedicated to providing you with great service.
Sailfish in Costa Rica are abundant November through April, however sailfish are available year round. Larger numbers of sailfish are taken
in Costa Rica from November through April, during this time you will be thrilled with 15 to 20 bites a day. Fly fishermen take note! This is the time to get your sailfish on fly. Marlin add to the excitement as they frequent Costa Rica year round. Giant yellow fin tuna, dorado, rooster fish, snapper and wahoo will round out your angling experience.
Often
anglers travel to Costa Rican destinations with dreams of their
"fishing trip of a lifetime". A decade ago, I was one of those
anglers. The fishing didn't disappoint me, neither did the scenery,
or the people. In fact, the only disappointment I had was the
condition of some of the boats I went out on, and the efforts of
some of the crews.
Never, beyond my wildest dreams, did I ever think I would one day
be an owner/operator of one of those boats. Quite by coincidence,
did this opportunity present itself. The owner of the boat I had
repeatedly fished on was critically ill, and consequently, had to
sell out. One thing led to another, and one day I woke up running
the business. Not knowing what to expect, the dream rapidly turned
into a nightmare. Overnight, I learned the hard way, what running a
charter business in a foreign country was all about. Only the ones
that have attempted it can appreciate how complicated it is. The
only way I've survived is by being incredibly stubborn (& sometimes
stupid). The only reason I've continued is simply for the love of
Costa Rica, it's fishing, and it's people.
Through this determination, I've survived. It's taken a decade,
and a lot of help, to finally accomplish my goal to furnish anglers
with an impeccable boat, and a great crew. This year we totally
restored the boat. A new paintjob, electronics, generator, and A/C.
I'm proud of both my Captain, Orlando Arias, and his mate, Daniel
Herrera. Both Orlando and Daniel speak fluent English. Their
personalities and enthusiasm are unique. Truly, two guys that are
simply a pleasure to spend the day fishing with.
Finally, after ten years, what was once a visionary dream, has
become a reality. A great boat, with a great crew. Who said dreams
don't come true ? ..........Bob Baker
