Question: "Why can't I use my credit card for insurance like in the United States?
Answer: In Costa Rica there is one insurance company, the government, and they
REQUIRE all foreigners renting a car in Costa Rica to buy insurance.
When comparing Costa Rica car rental prices many companies do not include insurance, car model
year or any other hidden fees.This is to avoid a tourist having an accident and later their credit card company denying coverage after the foreigner has left the country.
Most credit card companies explicitly EXCLUDED Costa Rica car rental for coverage and more
